Panajachel, or Pana, is one of the most popular places for tourists to visit in Guatemala, and if you’re going to visit only one town in Lake Atitlan, it will probably be Pana. You’ll find a well-developed town with a lot of resources for both locals and expats.

You need at least 3 days to explore the best bits of Lake Atitlan, take in the views from different vantage points, to enjoy the Volcanic scenery, the magnificient Lake and see a couple villages and experience local life. Although a week would be even better to give you the chance to stay in more than one village and try a few of the many activities on offer.!
Activities in Panajachel or Lake Atitlan area includes
- Kayaking – stand up Kayak is also available (early morning waves are the best)
- Aquatic motorcycles, are available in Panajachel, so its an option to enjoy Atitlan.
- Relax on a hammock, after an early walk or sunset walk on the lake beach
Swim… but keep in mind that there are no lifeguards on the beach, so, ask for safe areas to swim and be specially cautious with boats
